BSOS and IPSO are delighted to again bring you this intense 3-day theory course which also gives you practical skills you can use straight away.
Topics to be covered
• An Overview: the few critically important concepts which make superior dentistry available in your Practice
• Occlusal Disease: what it is and can we solve it?
• The Joint Position for Restorative Dentistry: where is it, how to find it, will it stay there?
• Centric Relation or Habit Bite: when is each appropriate?
• Ideal Occlusion: what is it, what isn’t it?
• Neuromuscular Response: what is it and why is it so important?
• Routine Cases: how can we use occlusal principles to make them easier, better and more predictable?
• ‘Big Cases’: how can we simplify them, even when we change vertical dimension?
• Cosmetic Cases: How to avoid failure
• Implant Cases: what is the ideal occlusal scheme and how do we achieve it?

What you will learn

• Why an ‘ideal appearing’ occlusion can precipitate severe occlusal symptoms
• The difference between a pathogenic occlusion and malocclusion and how to recognise each
• What an ideal occlusion looks like and why
• The manifestations of occlusal disease and how to spot them
• Why centric relation is so important and common sense methods for recording it
• When appliance therapy is appropriate and why it works
• Articulators and when to use them
• The use and value of a Facebow
• How and when to equilibrate, using plaster models
• How to become a THINKING DENTIST and make dentistry fun again.

Course benefits

In spite of the critical importance of occlusion, dental schools cannot include comprehensive training in this subject in an already crowded curriculum. This program is designed to fill that void and unveil many of dentistry’s mysteries that escape those dentists untrained in the management of occlusion. A follow-up limited attendance ‘hands-on’ study programme is also available. A better understanding of occlusion will make dentistry easier, more rewarding and more enjoyable.

Who should attend

General dentists, restorative, cosmetic and implant dentists, orthodontists and specialists who wish to expand their knowledge of the subject of occlusion and understand why it has an impact on everything they do.
Laboratory technicians will find this programme informative and stimulating and have a chance to meet dentists who understand occlusion.
Occlusion Management is fundamental to the delivery of first class dentistry.
There is no better format to learn these skills than in limited attendance seminars using hands-on training with your own patients right in your own community!

The British Society for Occlusal Studies is the premier UK society for dentists and dental professionals who have an interest in Occlusion and TMD. BSOS was set up in 1982 by a small group of dentists including Roy Higson, Peter Watson, John Hyde and Andy Lane, who had realised they lacked knowledge in the subject. Roy studied at the world-renowned Pankey Institute in Key Biscane, Florida. Associate membership is open to all dentists and PCDs who can demonstrate an interest in, and background knowledge of, occlusion and TMD
The International Partnership for the Study of Occlusion (IPSO) was founded in 1999 by six dedicated practicing dentists, including Dr. John Bassett and Dr. Roy Higson, with over 100 combined years of experience teaching occlusal principles to dentists in America, Australia, Canada and Great Britain. IPSO and BSOS provide limited attendance, hands-on seminars in a three-year sequential curriculum covering occlusion management of the natural teeth, anterior and posterior restorative dentistry and complete mouth rehabilitation.
More details of these Hands-On Courses will be given at the course.
